Philadelphia Area Churches Anticipate High Attendance For Easter Sunday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia area churches experience high attendance at today's services.

Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church is one of the largest congregations on any given Sunday but for today's service, Pastor Alyn Waller says the church has booked the Liacouras Center.

"We expect there will be persons who come who don't normally come to worship but that's an opportunity to get the message out to those who don't normally hear it," said Pastor Waller.

The message of Easter, in Christian belief, is redemption for sins and the triumph of eternal life over death. However, Reverend Robert Polen of Tenth Presbyterian says he thinks it's less the meaning of the holiday and more tradition that brings people out on Easter.

"For people who wouldn't consider themselves necessarily religious churchgoers the rest of the year still associate Easter and Christmas as churchgoing holidays," he said.

Tenth Presbyterian has multiple services, beginning with a sunrise service in Rittenhouse Square.
