Police Organization Donates Easter Food Baskets
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A charitable effort by the Polish Philadelphia Police Association took place for the 40th year.
Traditional Polish foods enjoyed at Easter time were blessed by a priest, then packed for delivery to needy families. Joe Gorka is a member of the Polish Police Association of Philadelphia.
"Distributing Easter Baskets is a tradition that goes back to Poland, and since we are an ethnic police association, we are keeping up the tradition. It's called Swieconka, and it's in the Polish neighborhoods. All in the river wards," Gorka explained.
Also packed with foods like kielbasa, ham and Easter bread was a candle, representing Christ, the light of the world.
