Police: Man Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself During Chase

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police say a man, who accidentally shot himself as he was being chased by police, has died.

Police say officers were called to 13th and Cambria, shortly after midnight, for a report of a man with a gun. They spotted a man who fit the description of the suspect and chased him, on foot, to the 29-hundred block of Broad Street.

Police said, as the officers went to apprehend the man, he and they tumbled to the ground and the suspect's gun discharged, striking him in the groin.

He was taken to Temple University Hospital for surgery but died early this morning. His identity has not been released.

There were no other injuries.
