Jury Returns Verdict In Trial Of Former Philadelphia Police Inspector

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A jury returned a verdict in the trial of former Philadelphia Police Inspector Daniel Castro, who earlier this week had an emotional break-down on the stand and admitted to taking part in a series of strong armed extortion attempts.

The jury found Castro “guilty” of one count of making false statements to the FBI who was investigating the alleged corruption. He was found “not guilty” of one count of extortion. The jury was hung on eight other counts, including other counts of false statements, extortion and bribery.

According to a grand jury indictment, Carlos Daniel Castro, 47, a commander from the traffic division and former police inspector, is accused of hiring a “collector” to use threats of violence and violence to collect $150,000 that he allegedly was owed from a debtor following a unsuccessful real estate investment. He was also charged with lying to the FBI during the investigation.

Castro initially pled not guilty and the defense claimed he was entrapped.

Now maybe the FBI can start prosecuting the former suburban police sargent who lied under oath in their own federal courtroom. Once as a police officer you lie especially under oath you deserve to be prosecuted. That case is really clear cut. The Feds should just let this verdict stand, each party has distaste in thier mouths, he will never be a cop again, the jury decided and let the lying cop’s conviction stand, he lost his career, a message was delivered, now deliver it to the cop from Bucks that lied in federal court.

As plain as the nose on anyone’s face, entrapment!! All of these years not attempting to recoup his money until approached by a “Govt. Witness” who assures he can get his money. The real story is his apparent posture for a higher rank on the PPD which has been promised to another, it’s time for a change, not another like Charles Ramsey, only this time there isn’t a “Birther issue” to complicate the mix or a trump card.
