DA: Upper Southampton Officer Died Of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

UPPER SOUTHAMPTON, Pa. (CBS) – Officials say a police officer who was found unresponsive in his cruiser outside a Bucks County church early Friday morning died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The officer was found by a passerby at about 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Jesus Focus Ministry on Bristol Road in Upper Southampton.

“We walked over and noticed that he was slumped over in his seat and the guy I work with saw a shotgun between his legs,” said the passerby, who asked to not be identified.

Another officer responding to the scene suffered a heart attack and was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne. The officer, identified as Police Chief Nick Rosato from neighboring Ivyland, is in stable condition.

The identity of the deceased officer has not been released pending notification of his family.

Really people – that is not a pic of the deceased, the further above view is a car and the closer-up one is an SUV. My condolences to all affected by this tragedy

Jojo, that is not correct. The suicide exclusion applies to life insurance policies only for two years after purchase!

I live in Southampton and while it is staggering to think a police officer might do this, it is a sign of today’s environment and also the stress all citizens are under these days. People ask the question why did he do that, but until you have been under some extremely stressful situation you will never understand it.

Rich Lizzio was an honest and kind person. Under his outer carapace that most people saw, his heart was filled with compassion and clarity. I was his friend, and even though at times we disagreed on certain topics, I respected his admirable viewpoint. He will be missed by all of us that truly knew him, and the people he unselfishly helped along his way through life. I thanked Rich on many occasions for his benevolence, but I wish I could have given him what he required in his time of need. Love You Rich, and thank you for your service to our community….
