Pa. Senate Accepts Corbett's Recall Of Philadelphia Sheriff Nominee Deeley

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - As expected, the Pennsylvania Senate has approved Governor Corbett's recall of Barbara Deeley's nomination to serve as Philadelphia Sheriff.

Barbara Deeley, who is serving as acting sheriff, was nominated by former Governor Rendell to fill the remainder of John Green's term as Philadelphia sheriff. The state Senate, in a party line vote, has approved Governor Corbett's recall of the nomination.

But Philadelphia Senate Democrat Vincent Hughes downplays the action, saying he believes Corbett will nominate someone who can fill in.

"Yeah, I mean, there's an election coming up. And so by January of next year, someone will be new there," he says. "The deal is going to have to be someone that can work in a transition process to whoever is going to become the new sheriff. And we expect to have an effective relationship with whoever's going to be over there."

Governor Corbett has not yet named his nominee for sheriff.
