Local Company Makes Strides In Converting Algae To Bio Fuel

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A company in Morrisville, Bucks County has come up with a way to grow and harvest algae that may soon reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Avery Hong, Chief Global Strategist for Bard Holding Incorporated says his company has come up with a cost effective way to grow algae indoors in a controlled environment, and it's quickly ready for use.

"The moment it goes into our system it immediately goes into rapid growth phase you can harvest literally in a handful of hours, you can start taking material out. It's fast, you can process it right away all within the same day you can convert it into bio fuel."

He expects in just a couple of years it will be a standard to fuel jets and cars and he says the military is looking into it, because BARD'S system is portable and could be used anywhere in the world.

Algae is now used as commercial fish and animal food, in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
