Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Avoid Looking Like A Tourist, With eBooks
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Ever stand on a street corner in a foreign city gazing at a colorful and cumbersome travel guide? It tells anyone watching, "Here is a tourist!" The books language also announces where you're from.
No longer; I bought a Kindle.
My first travel guide cost under $5. It covers London and the surrounding countryside. To the observer, I'm reading an e-book, a newspaper, magazine or checking Facebook at a sidewalk café. If it wasn't for the Phillies Tee-shirt, I could be a local.
But it's more than appearance. The little gadget fits easily into cargo shorts, the inside pocket of a suit or sport jacket and travels easily.
A series of travel guides by Mobile Reference at under $5 offers all essential information on town, attractions, events, foreign phrases – even history. Maps, directions and transportation along with side trips are all laid out and easy to navigate. Now if I can just sell that shirt.
