Hunger Walk Approaches, Need For Food Pantries Grows

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The annual Walk and Run Against Hunger kicks off April 9th in Philadelphia and organizers say the need is greater than ever.

Carey Morgan, executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger, said funds from the April 9th Walk and Run Against Hunger are vitally important, "Last year, we saw about 411,000 people receive food from food pantries."

Like the food program at the Triumphant Faith International Worship Center in Olney, run by Portia and Thomascina Bryd.  They feed about 100 people every third Saturday.  Portia Byrd said, "We try to educate them too.  We try to let them now (about) eating healthy and how to take care of their bodies."

You can run or walk, as a team or individually, and choose a pantry to support by going to hungercoalition.org.
