Court Blocks Unauthorized Sale Of Gosnell's Properties

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A civil hearing was held Wednesday afternoon in the case of the Philadelphia doctor accused of performing unsanitary and illegal abortions. The doctor is prohibited from selling any of his properties below market value without the court's knowledge.

Dr. Kermit Gosnell's attorney Jack McMahon explains the plaintiffs filed an injunctive relief to prevent Dr. Gosnell from moving any of his Philadelphia properties to avoid being judgment proof -- and the defense agreed to that.

"So the theory is that you don't transfer property to your uncle for a dollar and then say you don't have anything later on," McMahon said.

Attorney Bernard Smalley represents Yoshoda Gorung, whose mother allegedly died as a result of Dr. Gosnell's illegal abortion practices. He says they received a list of seven properties owned by Dr. Gosnell, "but the list of properties uncovered by the District Attorney are far in excess of that."

"The list I provided to the court today and to plaintiff's council is the list I know about," McMahon replied. "If there's something else, I'm not aware of it."
