PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — Police in Philadelphia say a man was wounded in an exchange of gunfire after taking his estranged girlfriend hostage.
Authorities say officers were called to a home near Arbor Street and Tabor Road in the Olney neighborhood early Tuesday morning for a domestic dispute.
Officers tried to negotiate with a suspect for nearly two hours before the man began waving his gun at police.
Officials say that’s when officers opened fire, striking the 23-year-old man in the chest. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition at Albert Einstein Medical Center. No other information was immediately released.
The woman escaped unharmed and was being interviewed by police.
