Company Looking To Reward Nonprofits Who Make An 'Impact'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Here is something you don't find every day, a company with money to give, looking for groups to give it to.

This is the 15th year for the GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT awards to non-profit groups that provide access to health care services in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Camden. The application deadline is March 31st so if your group wants to take a shot at $40,000, now is the time.

Mary Linda Andrews, GSK Director of Community Partnerships, says with the economy and government budgets tight, that kind of change is not small. Neither are its aftereffects.

"It helps them to garner other donations, to attract volunteers, attract strong board members. It also makes all of the staff of these organizations feel very proud about the work that they're doing for the clients," Andrews said.

She also says the award, which is to be used for direct services and not debt relief, can also boost an organization in terms of donations, volunteers and morale.
