Suspects Sought In Several Pharmacy Robberies

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia Police are hoping for help from the public catching a pair of armed robbers who have struck 10 CVS and Rite Aid Pharmacies in Philadelphia and Delaware Counties since August.

The latest robbery happened Friday morning at a CVS Pharmacy in Aston, Delaware County. Less than 24 hours earlier they tried, unsuccessfully, to rob an Overbrook CVS for the second time in three months.

According to investigators, the suspects entered the store when the manager on duty left the doors open after entering a couple minutes late. The suspect then ordered another employee to a store office to get money.

The suspect fled on foot after getting an undetermined amount of cash from the office.

So far, no one has been hurt, as the gunmen strike during morning hours, often ambushing workers then taking off with cash. Capt. Ben Naish, commander of the Southwest Detective Division, which is coordinating the search for the robbers, says the crimes are becoming more frequent, indicating the robbers may be getting desperate, raising the possibility of violence.

Naish added he hopes someone will come forward to identify video, posted on the Philadelphia Police Website.

The Citizens Crime Commission is also offering a $5,000 Reward for information. You can provide tips anonymously at 215-546-TIPS.
