Rigali Asks Parishioners To Pray For Both Accused Priests And Victims

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — To celebrate the first Friday of Lent, the Archbishop of Philadelphia held a special service at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City. During his homily, the Cardinal asked parishioners to pray for both the priests accused of sexual abuse and their victims.

“We remember once again the grave offense to God and the great harm to innocent victims of the evil of sexual abuse of minors,” Cardinal Rigali said.

Margie Murphy, who attended the service, says she believes Cardinal Rigali’s gesture shows that the church is moving in the right direction.

“I think that he is most distressed and most humbled and most apologetic for the entire church and for what our priests have done.”

Sorry Cardinal, but prayer hasn’t done much in the last 50 years of this disgrace by the priesthood. Time for a better approach! Your flock is deserting this religion fast.

What an insult to ask thoee who have remained in the Catholic Church to do so. I never liked a priest telling me how I should interpret the Bible, what movies I should see, what books I shouldn’t read, who I should vote for, etc. I left the Church in 2005 when the initial report was released and like many others, I was completely fooled by one of the pigs (Father Brennan). I actually loved him but never left him alone with my son.. It seems that Resurrection of our Lord in the NE is a safe haven for these disgusting pigs since 2 have been proven guility and there’s a 3rd being investigated. How dare this MAN ask church goers to pray for the child rapists. How utterly outrageous. GOD IS NOT IN A CHURCH BUT IN OUR HEARTS SO LET THE CATHOLIC CHURCH CRUMBLE AS IT DID TO ALL OF THE CHILDREN IT ALLOWED TO BE VICTIMIZED. I PRAY FOR THEM, THT GOD GIVES THE BRAINS TO KNOW IT WASN’T HIM/HER THAT WANTED THIS TO HAPPEN TO ANY OF THEM, TO KNOW THAT GOD AND HIS ANGELS WILL TRY TO INTERVENE OR PURSUADE WHEN POSSIBLE BUT CAN’T ALWAYS DUE TO FREE WILL AND THAT THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO HOPE AND PRAY THAT GOD GIVES THEM THE STRENGTH TO STILL BECOME ALL THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE, THAT NONE OF IT WAS THEIR FAULT AND KNOW THAT THEY ARE LOVED BY MANY, ESPECIALLY GOD, and me.

Are you f— kidding me. Pray for the mf’s who raped and scarred the children. Not a chance in HELL.

why did it take a grand jury investigation before he does anything though?????

    1. Mary De Angelis says:

You noticed that. So did I. Here is a bit from the Grand Jury’s Summary:

“The present grand jury, however, is frustrated to report that much has not changed. The rapist priests we accuse were well known to the Secretary of Clergy, but he cloaked their conduct and put them in place to do it again. The procedures implemented by the Archdiocese to help victims are in fact designed to help the abusers, and the Archdiocese itself. Worst of all, apparent abusers – dozens of them, we believe remain on duty in the Archdiocese, today, with open access to new young prey.”
