College Basketball: Drexel Women Hoping To Make Noise in CAA Tourney

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - After an 18-win regular season, the Drexel Dragons are the #6 seed in the CAA Tournament which begins Thursday in Upper Marlboro, Md.

The Dragons will open things up against the #11 seed, Towson.

"A very aggressive team," says Drexel head coach Denise Dillon, scouting the Tigers.  "They play really hard on the defensive end, they rebound the ball extremely well.  Offensively they have a strong point guard, a junior point guard who is capable of scoring in so many ways and finding her teammates.  So I think we need to contain her," Dillon says.

Towson finished the regular season 9-20, and Drexel swept their two meetings during the regular season.

The winner of the CAA Tournament earns an automatic NCAA Tournament bid, and for the Dragons to capture that jewel they will need four wins in four days.   That's a lot of basketball, but Dillon says her team doesn't have the luxury of getting tired.

"It's telling them, 'This is what you've played for.  You played your 29 games in order to get to this position.'  I think when the season winds down you can see a little bit of that in them: 'Give it all you have, you're running out of time, it's the end of the season.'  So when tournament play comes around, they certainly feel that.  They know if we don't do what's necessary, there is no tomorrow," Dillon told KYW Newsradio.

The winner of this game will face the #3 seed, UNC-Wilmington, in the quarterfinals on Friday.
