PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – In addition to being called Fat Tuesday, bakeries the world-over including Philadelphia label today Donut Day or Fastnacht Day. For one Mayfair bakery, today is one of the busiest days of the year.

For the Mayfair Bakery on Frankford Avenue, and bakeries across the region that make fresh baked donuts with those old country family recipes, lines will be long today, according to owner Paul Baumann, “It’s extremely busy today.”

Many donuts are popular, but some are more popular than others. “It’s the cream and jelly filled fastnachts. And we also sell some chocolate cream filled donuts too,” said Baumann.

Baumann predicted banner sales for Fastnacht Day, “Just the fastnachts today: 3,000. And we have a couple thousand more of our normal donuts that we sell every day.”

Baumann claims donut lovers can forget watching the diet, “because if you eat in a group of two or more there is no calorie count.”
