Spring-Ford Area School District To Hold Budget Town Hall

ROYERSFORD, Pa (CBS) - The Spring –Ford Area School District will hold a town hall meeting Monday night to give residents a chance to voice their concerns and make suggestions about ways to solve the budgetary problems facing the district.

The school board approved a $131 million preliminary budget two weeks ago that includes a more than $10 million shortfall and a possible 7.6 percent tax increase to help close the hole. The district says it's been hit hard by reassessments of commercial property and an anticipated drop in state aid.

Board President Joe Ciresi says the numbers are still being crunched, but they want residents to be aware of the possibilities.

"We also want the public to understand where these numbers are coming from. This wasn't from poor management of accounts, this is from the economic crisis that we're in, so we want them to understand it and be able to see it," Ciresi said.

He says everything is on the table at this point in terms of where they may have to cut in order to save money. Monday night's meeting will be held in the auditorium of the ninth grade center in Royersford at 7 p.m.
