Gov. Corbett Replaces 6 DRPA Members, Will Seek To Become Chairman

HARRISBURG, Pa (CBS) -- Governor Corbett has replaced six Pennsylvania members of the Delaware River Port Authority, naming himself as one of the new members.

Corbett's spokesman says the governor will seek to be chairman of the panel.

Ed Rendell was also chairman of the DRPA while governor of Pennsylvania but appointed John Estey to serve as his board designee. Spokesman Kevin Harley says Tom Corbett, on the other hand, wants to see for himself what's going on with the controversy-plagued agency, and plans to be a "very active" board member with definite ideas about returning the DRPA to its transportation roots.

"To make sure that DRPA gets back to what its core mission is, which is maintaining the bridges and not being involved in a lot of economic development projects, making sure that dollars that the people spend going across the bridges are spent to maintain the bridges."

Harley says Corbett has already had conversations with New Jersey Governor Christie about reforming the DRPA and says the two men share the goal of returning the agency to its core mission.
