New Jersey Group Holds Annual "Top Ten Beaches" Vote

FORT HANCOCK, NJ (CBS) - Voting is now underway in the fourth annual "top ten beaches" contest in New Jersey.

From Asbury Park to Avalon and beyond, many of us have a favorite shore point.  And if so, now's the time to be counted.

The New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium has kicked off its annual top ten beaches vote.  Spokeswoman Kim Kosko says 50,000 to 60,000 people regularly take part, voting not just for best beach but also in sub-categories like "family vacations," "day trips," and "eco-tourism."

And new this year, she says, submitted photos will be evaluated for a second round:  "Those 24 are going  to be posted on the website, and people will this year not only have a chance to vote on their favorite beaches in those categories but their favorite photos as well."

Winning photos will go into a 2012 beach calendar next year.

To see the photos and to vote for your favorite beach, go to njtoptenbeaches.org.
