2 Overnight Blazes Keep Philadelphia Firefighters Busy

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Firefighters were busy battling two blazes that broke out in North Philadelphia early Wednesday morning.

The first fire broke out at about 1:45 a.m. inside a home in the 2400 block of N. Spangler Street in the city's Strawberry Mansion section.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the home. The fire was placed under control shortly after fire crews arrived on scene.

Fire officials said nobody was home at the time of the fire and there were no reports of any injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The second fire erupted at about 3:45 a.m. inside an abandoned home at N. 16th and W. Cabot Street in North Philadelphia. The fire was placed under control about 30 minutes later.

There were no reported injuries. The cause of this fire also remains under investigation.
