Elderly Man Dies In Philadelphia House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A house fire in the city’s Wissinoming section claimed the life of an elderly man Monday morning.

Flames broke out at about 7:30 a.m. in the two-story row home in the 4100 block of East Howell Street. Within 16 minutes, the fire was placed under control.

An unidentified elderly man was not able to escape the blaze. Authorities say the victim, described as a “hoarder,” was found on the first floor and pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire officials say there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
