CB East Students Rally Against Teacher’s Comments

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) – Students at Central Bucks East High School rallied in the school parking lot Sunday to show that they are not the “lazy whiners” that suspended school teacher Natalie Munroe labeled them (See related story).

Senior Bailey Cavanaugh says being mocked and criticized as spoiled brats by people who don’t even know you is unacceptable. So students at CB East gathered to show what they are really all about.

“We do have unity here. We are standing strong. We are a positive community, and we want to show the outside world that we’re not the group of nasty kids that the country seems to think we are.”

Senior Ted Raymer was one of the speakers who climbed onto a pickup truck to laud CB East students.

“I don’t know if anyone here is on the boys soccer team, but we went to state’s this year — yeah! Girls cross-country, we’ve got some of the best runners in the nation, musicians and artists, we have so many, I can’t even list them all.”

  1. Retired Teacher says:

I agree with Mrs. Munroe. Students need to wake up and realize their slothfulness in school will ultimately result in lack of success in adult life.

I’m just a bit curious, did anyone see the cover of Philadelphia Magazine several months back…Generation Stupid? I’m sure this teacher has a point somewhere to be made. Overall, not all students are lazy and illiterate but it’s becoming more high profile than ever. Scary.

Hey kids, rather than rally together in a parking lot, how about a 5000 word essay on why you aren’t the lazy and illiterate individuals and students you are made out to be. Since you are all fighting so hard to convince us otherwise, the proof will be in the writings.

Really? Who cares………must be a slow day in the news.

  5. Stephanie Patterson says:

There is no wrong or right side here. Ms. Munroe has the right to state her opinions. However, as a teacher, she has a responsibility to lead by example. – other words, THINK BEFORE YOU ACT (OR POST). Now, as to the students: YES! There is a growing trend of whining and complaining about school responsibility and proper behavior. School obvious gets in the way of texting friends and “hanging out.” How dare a teacher ask you to WRITE with a pen, in proper English, and without using IM language. How dare a teacher make you do homework?

    Come on, kids- grow up!

    1. SB says:

honestly… u grow up. the students were just expressing their freedom of speech as well. this is seriously old news though.

  6. Karalyn says:

These are clearly only a few quotes. Academics were discussed. CB East is one of the top schools in the state for PSSA and SAT scores. At the rally, it was also mentioned that we have a 99% graduation rate.

    1. NS says:

Just because they have high test scores doesn’t mean they have the necessary maturity or social skills. These spoiled brats can’t even take criticism; how are they going to survive and function in the real world?

These students need to listen to what they need to hear, not just what they want to hear.

      1. CC says:

Please don’t use such harsh judgement until you have met these students.

  7. Joe V. Gilmore says:

like they say” IT’S BETTER TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED AND LET PEOPLE THINK YOU ARE STUPID THAN OPEN IT AND REMOVE ALL DOUBT

      Great reply!

No these are students, young people with fresh young minds. Student athletes of course have to make the grade or they are cut. In addition student athletes have to practice their sport. I hope no teacher, PAID, to teach Mrs. Monroe’s child has these negative comments to say about him or her. Hopefully, Mrs. Monroe’s child’s teacher can motivate, respect and inspire her or him. Her blog was disrespectful and if only about a handful of students as she claims, then again the children above are correct the overwhelming majority of her students do well. She should work to praise and uplift those children. You never no what’s going in in the lives and minds of your students.

  9. NS says:

Looks like these students can’t handle the truth: that they’re a bunch of losers who can’t deal with life nor function in society.

  10. jane says:

“The fact that the best thing he could come up with wias sports teams actually backs up Ms. Munroe’s claims.

    Um ok … mr. “wias”
nice try Natalie you still suck

  11. Paul Henderson says:

It’s a shame that the senior quoted in the story didn’;t talk about the academic excellence of his fellow students. The fact that the best thing he could come up with wias sports teams actually backs up Ms. Munroe’s claims.
