Police Recover Body Found Submerged In Wilmington Channel

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) - Police in New Castle County are investigating the death of a man whose body was found submerged in a Wilmington channel Sunday morning.

At about 10:38 a.m., police responded to a report of a body found near the 300 block of South Park Drive. According to police, the partially clothed body was spotted in the channel, known as the Race, directly beneath the Washington Street Bridge.

A passerby was walking his dog on the path next to the Race when he found the body and contacted authorities. The Wilmington Fire Department responded to the scene and recovered the victim. Authorities say the victim appeared to be in the water for several days.

At this time, Wilmington police say there are no signs of foul play. A preliminary investigation identifies the victim as a 30-year-old man from Newark.

The case remains under investigation.
