Phillies Hold Design Contest For New Ballgirl Uniforms

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Phillies, in partnership with the Macy's department store chain, are hosting a design challenge for new uniforms for the Phillies ballgirls.

"We're asking local designers to submit applications to design the Phillies ballgirls' new 'appearance' uniform -- the uniform they would wear to different community events that they go to," says Michele DeVicaris, manager of Phillies community and charity events.

DeVicaris says there are three requirements for applicants to consider:  "Creativity, practiciality, and then also something that'll capture the brand image of both Macy's and the Phillies."

So, yes, there will probably be some sort of Macy's logo on the new uniforms that the ballgirls will wear to community events, but not on their on-field uniforms.

And what would the ballgirls like to wear?

"Something creative, something different that's got a little funkiness to it," said one.

"Something that is sporty-chic," said another.

"It also need to be family appropriate," added a third.

Fashion entry forms are available online at phillies.com and must be postmarked by February 19th.  Finalists will be announced on February 28th, with a finalist fashion show to be held at Macy's on March 31st.
