TRENTON, NJ (CBS) - A New Jersey man has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars for killing his mistress.

In June, 2007, a Christiana Hospital nurse saw the victim’s toddler son, 11-month-old Michael Giordano, sitting alone and crying under a tree in the hospital parking lot.

Police initially asked for the public’s help identifying the baby and finding his mother.

But in the weeks and months that followed, authorities learned that Michael’s mother, Amy Giordano, was missing.  Her dismembered body was later found in New York.

The woman’s lover and the baby’s father, Rosario DiGirolamo, was charged with the murder.

DiGirolamo pleaded guilty last month after prosecutors told the court that in the days before Girodano’s murder, DiGirolamo had Googled the Internet for “lethal karate blows to the back of the head” (see previous story).

DiGirolamo will be 57 before he’s eligible for parole.  The boy is now living with relatives.
