Philly Mayor: Urban Outfitters Adding 1,000 Jobs

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Clothing retailer Urban Outfitters is preparing to add 1,000 jobs as part of an expansion in its Philadelphia hometown.

Mayor Michael Nutter said the company is making its official announcement on Wednesday. But the mayor said Tuesday that the company expects to bring 1,000 new jobs over the next three years to its headquarters in the Philadelphia Navy Yard Corporate Center.

Nutter said Urban Outfitters is expanding to the site's former cruise ship terminal.

Urban Outfitters already employs about 1,500 people at the Navy Yard. The large waterfront complex in South Philadelphia has developed into a corporate office center since the Navy officially closed it in 1995.
