(CBS) – Multiplexes tend to be quiet on wintry Super Bowl weekends, and this year was no exception.
The new suspense thriller The Roommate, took first-place honors, almost by default, as the only feature to top the $10 million mark. It took in an estimated $16 million.
The weekend’s other new debuting title Sanctum, the action-adventure thriller, placed second with just $9 million.
Rounding out the top five were holdovers No Strings Attached, The King’s Speech, and The Green Hornet. Last weekend’s leader The Rite, the exorcism thriller, fell to sixth.
Overall, February traffic was decidedly light at the nation’s theaters as expected, and is expected to pick up considerably next weekend.
