University City Students Celebrate Scientific Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Science demonstrations and lectures were in full force in University City Saturday where students participated in Philly Materials Science and Engineering Day.

Students in University City conducted public demonstrations and experiments for the Philly Materials Science and Engineering Day. Philipp Hunger is a Drexel PhD student.
His team illustrated how different materials react to extreme temperatures.

"If you don't understand the material science, you can't develop a car, a rocket, you can't have food! We get a lot of information from food processing," Hunger said.

Hunger says there are endless uses for materials science applications.

"I work on artificial bones. We have so many different fields and it all comes back to materials science."

Dorilona Rose with Drexel University helped organize the event.

She says her favorite part is "seeing all the people coming here and having a good time, especially the kids getting to experience all the demos."
