Woman, 72, Fatally Struck By Car Outside Abington Memorial Hospital

ABINGTON, Pa. (CBS) - An elderly woman died after being struck by a car while walking with her husband outside a hospital in Montgomery County early Wednesday morning.

The incident happened at about 6:30 a.m. on Old York Road near the Abington Memorial Hospital.

According to investigators, the 72-year-old victim was walking with her husband when she crossed the northbound lanes and then stepped from the medial strip into the path of a southbound vehicle. Police say the area was not a designated crosswalk.

The driver of the striking vehicle, a 40-year-old male from Warminster, stopped, called 911 and rendered aid to the victim.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of her family. Her husband was not injured.

Officials with the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office said there does not appear to have been any violations on the part of the driver and no charges are expected.
