WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) – A 19-year-old man was apprehended Saturday evening after he reportedly opened fire on an officer in Wilmington.
At about 7:15 p.m. police were conducting a routine patrol in the 600 block of West 5th Street when they attempted to stop the suspect for an undisclosed reason. Upon fleeing on foot, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple times at the police officer, authorities say.
The officer returned fire and continued chasing the suspect until he was arrested in the 300 block of Madison Street. Authorities say at the time of his arrest, the suspect was is possession of marijuana and was also on probation with a GPS monitoring device around his ankle.
Neither the suspect nor the officer received injuries. The suspect’s name has not been released.
