Police Investigate Suspicious Death In Manayunk

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia homicide detectives carried away evidence from Venice Lofts in Manayunk Friday afternoon. Through the 6th floor window you could see investigators inside the loft of Ellen Rae Greenberg.

Wednesday the 27 year-old's fiancé reportedly found her dead with multiple stabs wounds to her upper torso.

"I'm 27 years-old, so to hear that makes me uncomfortable," said Maria, a resident who didn't want to disclose her last name.

Greenberg taught first grade at Juniata Park Academy for 4 years.

A statement from the district reads in part, "She will be dearly missed by all of us, especially her colleagues, students and the families at Juniata Park Academy."

Sources tell Eyewitness News Greenberg's funeral was today in Harrisburg, where she's originally from.

"It's horrible," said Venice Lofts resident Tejinder Gill. "My heart goes out to her family and fiancé."

Gill, who has lived at Venice Lofts for two years, calls the area safe. There are several cameras watching the building, and a security guard sits at the main entrance.

He and several other neighbors say they are shocked they weren't notified by the property manager.

"They notify us about everything else, I can't believe they didn't tell us about it," said Julie Hibbs.

At this time, detectives list Greenberg's death as "suspicious," and are leaning their probe in a non-criminal direction.
