PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The severe winter weather could take a heavy toll on your car or truck if you don’t take care of it.
We’ve been riding on top of salt and brine for weeks now, and if you haven’t washed your car regularly you could be facing major damage down the line.
Chris Toriello, owner of Executive Auto Salon in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia, says all it takes is a scratch or a ding for that protective coating on your car to become an open wound, vulnerable to corrosion.
“We get cars all the time where the frame is just rusted out,” he told KYW Newsradio recently. “Sometimes there’s nothing we can do. The older vehicles, the ’96s and ’97s, they’ve been neglected and the rust is too far gone.”
Toriello says those who are waiting for better weather before getting their car washed are being penny wise and pound foolish.
