Tips From The Home Show For Keeping Warm Without Going Broke

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - When it's this cold outside, people start thinking about how they can stay warm inside - without breaking the bank.

HGTV's Chip Wade says it's a great time to get a professional energy audit, to see how much warmth is escaping from your house. You can also do it yourself - by turning on all the exhaust fans and checking around the windows, doors and outlets for moving air.

"From there you can get a plume of smoke off a stick of incense or a wet back of your hand and go around all those areas and you'll be able to tell exactly where you need to address."

Wade also suggests turning the heat way down when you leave the house.

"Every degree does make a big difference and every single thing you tag together ultimately culminates into big savings."

And that's enough to warm even the frostiest heart.
