Non-Profit Helping The Terminally Ill Find Wedded Bliss Comes To Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A non-profit that helps the terminally ill find wedded bliss is coming to Philadelphia.

Wish Upon a Wedding helps couples facing a terminal illness or serious life-altering event plan and enjoy the wedding or vow renewal they have always wanted.

Philadelphia president Mark Kingsdorf says local wedding planners and businesses will donate many of the items such as flowers and food and take care of the details. The ceremonies can take place in the home, at a bedside or in a hospice.

"We'll actually have a medical outreach chair who will work with cancer centers, hospices, medical facilities within the region to reach out to them to see if they have clients in need."

He says too often patients wanting to tie the knot may find paying for a wedding out of reach, because of skyrocketing medical bills.
