Chamber Orchestra Of Philadelphia To Perform Works By Bizet and Rodrigo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia welcomes guest conductor Andrew Grams as he leads the orchestra in works by Bizet and Rodrigo.

Peter Gistelinck is the orchestra's executive director. "Georges Bizet is a French composer and Juaquin Rodrigo is a Spanish composer; Rodrigo is from the 20th century and Bizet is from the 19th Century."

Bizet is well known for his opera Carmen but this piece is his first symphony in C Major and it's quite different.

"He wrote this in 1855 he was 17 years old. It's a very, very wonderful work and we really wanted to perform it."

The performances are January 23rd and 24th at the Kimmel Center and the 25th at Temple Performing Arts Center.
