Analysis: How The Tucson Tragedy Might Change Politics

(CBS) - The investigation into the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords continues and the people who run the country may face a big change coming.

In one of the first responses to the shooting, Congressman Pat Meehan told us, 'this changes everything.' The national dialogue may soften a bit but it is doubtful that will last. However, one result of the rampage will be a heightened sense of security for members of Congress, all public officials, and even judges.

One of the important parts of representative Democracy, the person to person dialogue between constituents and those we elect and those who serve, could fade away.

Will it be too dangerous or will we have to provide too much security to hold town hall meetings?  Would members of Congress have to conduct their meetings through Skype or the other video conferencing technologies? It is really too early to tell. However,  as we mourn the victims and hope for the survivors, it is something that may have te be considered down the road.
