Local Politicians React To Congresswoman's Shooting In Arizona

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Politicians in the region who work with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Washington are reacting to the shooting.

U.S. Congressman Democrat Bob Brady of Pennsylvania worked on the arm services committee with congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. He says she spoke with her on Friday and can't grasp why anyone would do this.

"I don't understand it, I mean especially someone like her who was well liked in Arizona. Her constituents did like her. (She is) a gracious lady; nothing too controversial. And this is absolutely senseless."

Congressman Brady says his prayers are with all of those shot in Arizona and their families.

Congressman Chaka Fattah says Congresswoman Giffords has been an outstanding colleague.

The congresswoman and I are friends and I've worked with her for a number of years and she has been an extraordinary member of the congress and our prayers are that she will continue to be."

Fattah says he is praying for all of the victims, as is former congressman Joe Sestak.

This is such a tragedy. She is just great She's fun to be around, but she cared passionately.

Sestak served with Giffords on the armed services committee and he says they had a common approach to working with constituents.

"She was shot when she was doing a know your congresswoman or congresswoman on the corner, right there in a supermarket. That was Gabby."
