PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The local office of the FBI today recognized more than two dozen individuals who helped with successful arrests and prosecutions in some high-profile cases.

Twenty-nine people were presented with the FBI’s prestigious “Director’s Award.”

George Venizelos, director of the Philadelphia office of the FBI, says they present such awards about twice a year.

“As we get a lot of these successful cases done, we try to thank our partners for all the hard work they do and help us to have succeeded in these cases,” he told KYW Newsradio today.

(Kuznits:)  “And some of the cases are…?”

(Venizelos:)  “Murder of a police officer, bank robberies, any other violent type of crimes.”

Venizelos says these awards are a representation of the cooperation between the FBI, the Philadelphia DA’s office, the medical examiner’s office, and of course various police departments.

“Because without these relationships, we would not be able to succeed in what we try to do.  It’s a pretty good award for people to get,” Venizelos said.
