Despite Terminology, "Crackheads" Catch On Among Eagles Fans
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Eagles-Packers playoff game will feature a rematch between the "cheeseheads" and the "crackheads."
"Couldn't be any better -- Crackheads vs. Cheeseheads," says Don McKloskey, the guy who came up with the idea for the Crackhead headwear before going to the final game of the '09 season.
"I wanted to make something to go to the game. I was thinking about what the most iconic Philadelphia symbol was, so I made a Liberty Bell hat out of some sofa cushions and we spray-painted them up and went down to the tailgate and we called them the Philadelphia Crackheads."
McKloskey and his partner, Brian McMicken, tried to get the manufacturer of the cheesehead hats to crank out their product but were rebuffed because of the "crackhead" double entendre. The two eventually found a local manufacturer who got the gig.
