Montgomery County Police Warn Of Recent Assaults On Joggers

LOWER MERION Twp. (CBS) -- Lower Merion Police are letting people know about two recent assaults on joggers in recent weeks.

A woman tells Lower Merion police she was jogging at about 9:30 last Sunday night near Montgomery Avenue and Owen Road when a person on a black mountain bike reached out to touch her - assault her - as he passed.

Police Superintendent Michael McGrath says that incident sounds similar to one that happened December 13th, in the middle of the afternoon:

"In that instance, the jogger was followed by someone on a similarly described bike."

That happened on North Wynnewood Avenue near Sabine Avenue; the jogger stopped at a home for help. McGrath says neither woman was injured, but police want the public to be aware of their surroundings:

"We're not sure if this is some teenagers idea of a joke."

McGrath says police would like to hear from other victims - if any anyone else has been harassed while out getting some exercise.
