PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Flyers are off until they visit the New Jersey Devils on Thursday, in the final game of this five-game road trip.
On Monday, the team made a move to lessen the logjam in goal.
Veteran Michael Leighton (above) was placed on waivers by the Flyers. Leighton had played in just one game this season, a 7-4 win against the Kings back on December 30th. He missed much of the season after undergoing back surgery back in October.
In his absence, rookie Sergei Bobrovsky and veteran Brian Boucher played well in goal, making Leighton a bit of a third wheel.
Leighton burst on the scene last season as his strong play in net helped fuel the Flyers to the Stanley Cup finals. Leighton went 16-5-2 last season as a Flyer, in 27 games. He signed a two-year deal with the Flyers back in June.
