PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Mummers Parade came to a close Saturday night as the judges picked their favorite performers.
The 111th parade went down in the history books, with wins for the Jokers in the Fancy Brigade, Quaker City for the String Band, Hog Island in the Fancy Division, and Murray in the Comics.
Each performance is a contest that challenges Mummers to start the year with the biggest bang. For the fans and families, this is more than just a hobby.
“It’s a Philadelphia tradition. You can’t do away with the Mummers,” said Lynette Comitalo, one of the many attendees.
The audience packed the stands to catch every minute of the show. The only thing that beats watching is performing.
“We did great. We made it on point. The marshals did a hell of a job,” said Mummer Hugh Nunngusser.
The Mummers brought their energy from dawn until dusk this new year’s day. Warm winter weather brought out the crowds to watch over 3,000 performers make their way toward City Hall.
