Christie Defends Being On Vacation For First Big Storm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is asking for federal aid to assist in cleanup from the post-Christmas blizzard. The one he and his family spent at Disney World. And Christie is offering an apology to absolutely no one.

Governor Christie was in Freehold signing a letter requesting FEMA aid when reporters asked him why he failed to return to the state after the severity of the storm.

"My kids were really looking forward to having this vacation with me and I was looking forward to having it with them and I had promised it to them. I don't break promises lightly to anybody and especially not to my children."

Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno was also out of state leaving it to Senate President Steve Sweeney to handle things. Christie says he was in constant contact with administrators and Sweeney and could not have done anything more had he been in the state.

As for how the storm was handled, Christie gives workers an A for effort and a B+ for results.
