Hangover Helpers In Time For The New Year

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you wake up on New Year's Day with a hangover, here are a few 'hangover helpers.'

First, drink as much water as you can, because alcohol totally dries you out – which reminds me, when was the last time you watered your Christmas tree? Go check and while you're lying there under the boughs you might fall asleep on the tree skirt… but a nap won't hurt a bit.

Next, while it's easier to take an aspirin than boil up willow bark like our ancestors had to, you can make a tea out of various things from your garden: peppermint leaves soothe your stomach, as does ginger root, which people also use for motion sickness - maybe it'll help the room stop spinning. Add fennel seeds to calm your guts, which can help if not everything you ate or drank stayed down on New Year's Eve. Just boil water, steep the herbs, then add honey to replace some sugars you've lost and lemon to refresh your system and make it all taste better.

I know, some of you are going to pour in rum or brandy…I can't stop you. All I can say is, you're going to need to drink even more water.

Happy New Year!
