One Dead, One Critical After Delaware Bay Boating Mishap

CAPE MAY, NJ (CBS) -- One person is dead and another in critical condition after an overnight fishing boat accident off Cape May.

The US Coast Guard was called out by New Jersey state police after word came in that a 63-foot fishing boat was taking on water in the Delaware Bay, about seven miles off shore.

Coast Guard spokesman Jonathan Lindberg says rescue crews found life jackets amid the debris.

"There were two people that were located," Lindberg told KYW Newsradio on Thursday morning.  "One was responsive, one was unresponsive.  The one that was responsive was hoisted into a helicopter and they were taken to Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City."

That individual was reported in critical condition.  Crews were unable to recover the sunken vessel or the body of the second man due to current conditions.

Reported by David Madden, KYW Newsradio 1060.
