Explosion Rocks Bucks County Chemical Plant
TRUMBAUERSVILLE (CBS) - Firefighters in Bucks County quickly contained and controlled
an early morning explosion and fire inside a commercial plant that produces chemical powders for pharmaceuticals and foods.
The small community just outside of Quakertown was rocked by a loud explosion at about 1:30 a.m. inside a firm called Particle Size Tech, according to fire chief Joshua Mallory.
"I arrived on scene first, actually observed a hole through the exterior wall with fire visible. Employees advised there was an explosion inside," he said. "There was a powder that's used for food processing, it's not a health hazard, but it is an explosion hazard when the dust is mixed into the air."
There were no injuries, and potentially dangerous water runoff from water used to control chemical dust was quickly contained. The Bucks County fire marshall has launched an investigation.
