NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) – A Delaware man died after a large tree that he was cutting in his backyard fell on him Friday afternoon.

The tragic accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Kings Avenue in New Castle.

According to investigators, 60-year-old Galaen Shoun went to a wooded area behind his home to get firewood for his wood burning stove.

Shoun began cutting a tree when the tree fell on top of him, pinning him to the ground.

Emergency personnel arrived and they immediately began rescue efforts and lifted the tree off Shoun and began CPR.

Shoun was rushed to Christiana Hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
