Former Cop Convicted On Sex Abuse Charges

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia jury convicted a former city police officer and karate instructor of the repeated sexual abuse of a student. The defendant was immediately taken into custody.

Fifty-one-year-old Tyrone Wiggins showed no reaction on Tuesday.

But the victim, now 25, sobbed uncontrollably after the jury found Wiggins guilty of multiple sex offenses. Later, visibly shaken, she offered thanks. And she urged other potential victims to come forward saying there's someone who will believe them, and there's hope.

Wiggins will be sentenced in March. The prosecutor says he will argue for a very lengthy prison term.
