NORTH WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) – A New Castle County police officer has rescued a 21-year-old woman from a burning car while part of her body had caught on fire.
Police say Senior Sergeant Keith Sparks was first to arrive to a car crash scene Saturday about 2:30 a.m. in North Wilmington. Sparks was able to suppress the flames enough with a fire extinguisher to pull the woman from the back seat of the car.
Then Sparks extinguished the flames from the woman’s body, head and face.
The woman was sent to a hospital in critical condition. She has burns to over 15 percent of her upper body. Sparks was treated and released for burns to his hand.
