Brotherly Love: Riddle Holiday Express

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- At this time of year, many places set up model train displays to celebrate the season. But the train we're about to show you has a story of giving. The man behind it is Dave Adcock. For years, he has created a little world inside the lobby of Riddle Memorial Hospital.

In the morning, this town comes to life with commuters, firefighters, and trains! It's all powered by the imagination of Dave Adcock.

"I guess you can call it my passion," Adcock said.

This is the Riddle Holiday Express, a tiny city filled with everything you might expect -- even billboards that raise money for charity.

"The majority that's on there is paying vendors," said Adcock. "It's like a little real estate empire."

A billboard goes for about $150, and whole buildings go for about $500. The money helps both local charities and the hospital's patients.

Last year's fundraising helped buy fold-out chairs for dads in the maternity unit.

"Often times, moms come to the hospital and they want their families to be with them and share this experience," said Barbara Kurtz, patient care manager in the obstetrics unit. "So now their families have a place to sleep, and it's comfortable."

Dave Adcock has been creating this train display since 2004. Over the years, it has raised around $70,000, including this year.

All the kids know is, it's fun! "I gotta clean the glass pretty much daily because of the fingerprints," said Adcock.

Some of the money goes to scholarships for teens like Joseph Grant.

"I think it's remarkable," said Grant. "I think he spends a lot of time and care and love into it."

And Dave's making a new holiday tradition for years to come.

You don't even have to be a patient to visit the train. Some people just stop by every year!
